About Us – From Strength to Strength
Limerick Tutorial College initially called Limerick Tutorial Centre, was established in 1985. At first, its role was very specific. In its first year, it provided tutoring for Leaving Certificate students who were having difficulties with certain subjects. However, this tutoring gradually extended to Fifth Year students, Junior Certificate students, First and Second years and even Primary School pupils.
Due to the success of students who attended in the first few years, the College decided to run a specialised One Year Full-time Leaving Certificate Course, starting in September 1988. This course was primarily for students who wanted to repeat their Leaving Certificate in order to get higher points. In its first year, over 80% of students raised their results by at least two grades per subject.
In the following years, the numbers attending the College grew substantially. By 1990, many local parents were eager for the College to do even more. So in September of that year, it commenced a fully fledged 6th Year Course. Three years later, after further parental demand, a Fifth Year Course was added. In effect, the College was now running a Full-time Two Year Leaving Certificate Course.
In 2002 the College changed its name to Limerick Tutorial College. Perhaps the greatest vote of confidence the College has ever received is the fact that a large number of second and third family members have attended after witnessing the progress of the first family member. By 2002, 370 families had sent a second member of their family to Limerick Tutorial College: by 2011 this number has grown to 967. This has been due to the phenomenal results achieved by students of all levels of ability over the past 24 years. These results are due to:
(a) Excellent teaching by dedicated staff
(b) The ideal structures being put in place for each individual student
(c) Sincere and genuine pastoral care being provided by all members of College Management, Teachers, Administration,
Supervisors and Security Staff.
